I’m not even going to pretend that this was my original idea because everyone has seen an episode of Buzzfeed’s Worth It. I love watching those videos and wanted to make an Auckland version, so I decided to explore the underrated delicacy known as fish burgers. Or what I like to call, fush boigas.

I think fush boigas are the unsung hero of the fast-food world. People always rave on about beef patties and fried chickas, but the fishy always gets fucked off to the side and I don’t know why. Just like the boys on Buzzfeed, I explored the delicacy at three different price points and I included the fries and the drink because I can’t think of a time I only opted for the burger and not the combo because that’s not my definition of living.

I started off with the old drunk favourite, McDonalds’s which came in at $10, then worked my way up to Burgerfuel @burgerfuel which was $22.90 and it was actually one of the most disappointing burgers I’ve put in my mouth, I can’t even give it the title of a ‘boiga.’ Last and definitely not least, I hit up my babies at Céleste @bar_celeste and b-ro, I’m not being biased when I say this. But damn, that burger, fries and wine combo will tear your wallet and undies apart but it’s actually so worth it. There was something about this night that made them hit different, it might be because I had it straight after the feral fish rendition from BFuel but holy hecker, it was absolutely divine. If you haven’t had one of these yet, you are a loser and I can’t be friends with you.
