I never watched the original movie (it’s on my list though) and I kinda found it on a whim. On top of that I’m mostly surprised it’s not a more talked about show. I was watching Will Forte and Tina Fey interviews on YouTube. Been kinda enjoying SNL adjacent stuff lately. MacGruber is a classic film btw. I’m a fan of my era of that show and a bit before that. I’m sure everyone shares a similar sentiment, but Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Adam Samberg, Seth Meyers, Will Forte, Bill Hader, all my favorite people that’ve made a lot of my favorite things of all time. Brooklyn 99 is easily one of the best sitcoms on the planet, Barry is one of the most intricately intense and hilarious things I’ve witnessed, so I need to explain myself when it comes to the other three? Anyways, I saw Will and Tina were doing interviews recently around the same time, after watching some I got to the part where they talked about their new show. This. It’s probably my new favorite one season anime in a really long time. They were set up for success from the get go really. The cast list will make you believe it’ll be the best thing you’ll watch before you even get to watch it. Each character has a level of depth that would ruin most show’s flow. They’re deep, they have secrets, and you get to see them have very vulnerable and private conversations. Conversations that had real consequences to the characters it affected. Keeping it brief, it’s a show about three different couples and the trips they go on through the four seasons. Each season gets a few episodes, each jam packed with these incredibly human moments. We start with what will become a failed marriage, and how these couples navigate this hump in the road. With a solid mix of comedic and serious moments. I went through it all in one sitting on a day off. Which felt like one of the craziest emotional roller coasters a show has put me through. Especially towards the end where a very unfortunate things happens to one of the friends. Not just laughing at a joke but the idea that someone would do such a thing by under those circumstances. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I laughed, cried, cringed, everything. Scoring it a 9 because I don’t think it’ll be the most memorable thing someone will watch. Which is a shame because this is seriously one of the best shows I’ve seen ever. It has mad replay ability though. I remember my roommate coming into the house with me watching it and just kinda being confused, until literally one of the funniest things ever happens in the show and he dies on the floor. It was a pause the tv I can’t miss anything type of dying. Might give it a 10 on my next watch. And hope you enjoy it. If any of how I said this review seems vague, it’s because I already gave a lot away and not saying names at least keeps you from know what happened to who. Figured I’d be nice enough to be as spoiler free as possible.
