Quick review: I expected less going into this movie. The CGI was pretty spot on the whole movie, the fight scenes were freaking sweet, and the few fatalities or flawless victories we got to see were cool too. Lots of fan service shots as well making it look like they really stuck to the game which is in itself impressive as a feat. It could’ve been a lot better, but it also coulda been so much worse. I enjoyed it for what it was and am excited for a sequel. Real review: the protagonist sucked the whole movie. Through and through he’d add nothing to any conversation other than saying some dumb shit like “but I have to fight” or some shit like that. He was damn near useless the whole time too. I understand how arcs work but this arc wasn’t very interesting. Would’ve rather focused on scorpion rather than the whole bloodline prophecy. Which really didn’t end up really being much of a prophecy at all. The supporting characters like Kano and Kung Lao were far more interesting and wish they developed their characters more. Another complaint I have is the editing is fucking awful. Talk about lack of shot continuity the first half of the movie was so bad and felt so off it was hard for me to ignore. People switching spots and barely paying any actual attention to a cohesive story. It was a mess. But you can clearly see where the money went and it was clearly well spent. Just hoping the next one is a tad better.
