There are obvious red flags when a sequel comes out almost thirty years after the original. It definitely wasn’t bad. In fact I think it’s the funniest movie in 2022 (and yeah I understand there isn’t much competition which is more or less my point). That being said Beavis and Butthead are icons and their comedy is timeless. Often overlooked at as just potty humor, this movie yet again shows how detailed it actually is. Given the circumstances Beavis and Butthead find themselves in, they have no care for it and only really ever want at least three things. To score, fire, and kick some ass. Don’t expect something intelligent comedy wise besides it’s approach, but we do see actual character development happen for these characters that we’ve seen in the same place forever. Does this development turn into anything super meaningful? That’s where most set themselves up for failure, as Beavis and Butthead are masters of ignoring anything plot related or anything to help the plot move along that isn’t in their direct line of sight, or train of thought. I truly didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did, and watching it more than once is preferred. The plot moved along really nicely, and the jokes would pretty much always land. It never got boring or felt repetitive even in their Beavis and Butthead nature we grew to know and love. Mike Judge gives us a new movie that really holds up and give you a reason to re subscribe to Paramount + after watching only the first season of the new iCarly. I also liked how they interacted very little with the multiverse stuff. While Smart Beavis and Butthead are really fun additions to the lore and funny to watch, it doesn’t get messy and try to explain things we already understand very well, like the multiverse idea which Smart Beavis and Butthead comment on when trying to refer Into The Spiderverse to explain the concept to regular Beavis and Butthead. With this movie being made in 2020 and didn’t release for a while until now like other films from this year including Everything Everywhere All At Once, it’s funny how this movie came out the way it did. I don’t wanna spoil all of the fun so I think I’ll just leave it there. If it seems goofy and dumb, it is, that’s the point, that’s the commentary. Is it perfect? No. But I really enjoyed it and laughed the whole movie. Even if you’re too cool for poopy jokes, you might find some entertainment value in this film. 8/10 easy
