I started watching this movie randomly not knowing it was directed by Kubrick , around 30 mins passed by and then came the charge at the Anthill shot , i had to pause and see who the director was cause that is one hell of a shot , through and through a masterly framed piece, and as the movie progresses, it slowly changed from a simple drama , to multifaceted look at the motives of war , from the top down to he bottom up , we are treated to the parts which i have not seen in any war movie so far , and by the end i was left so puzzled, so perplexed, so confused yet so entertained , what the hell was that . Beautiful. Apparently the german lady that sings at the end of the movie , was inspired by Christmas truce , where german and British soldiers sang Christmas carols across No man's Land. And that Kubrick married that lady and remained married until his death in 1999. This was one of the most remarkable and powerful antiwar movie i have seen . Its deep and leaves you with so many questions about war and the men who are running it . Overall a masterpiece
