What instantly put me off from the very first second was Margot Robbie’s character, a textbook manic pixie dream girl. An older, slightly more tragic version of it, sure, but still stuck in that trope, someone emotionally frozen in her teenage years because of past trauma. The film centers on two people with commitment issues, showing their journey of learning to trust and open up, no matter how uncertain the ending might be. It gave me flashes of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, both because of Margot’s role and the overall script.
It’s an easy watch, light, occasionally emotional, and visually striking (helped a lot by Robbie and Colin Farrell’s FACE CARDS). Still, it feels more like a pleasant one-time experience rather than something that lingers or demands to be revisited. Beautiful in the moment, but not unforgettable🫸
