Mysterious, but it doesn’t say much. The film is pessimistic and deterministic, without taking a great deal of time to examine the claims it ends up making. The “twist” at the end is unearned and takes away meaning from the conclusion, chocking everything up to a larger plan rather than the nature of things - which may have been the point but ultimately makes the film less interesting. The special effects are spectacular however, and Mother is exceptionally well rendered.
