A talented actress like Hepburn deserves a character better than this. She’s smart and sophisticated, but can’t see how vile her love interest is? That’s difficult to contend with, and makes every beat of the movie predictable. Bogart is actually a funny character and his and Hepburn’s charm carry the film. It’s enjoyable and engaging solely because of their performances.
