My premise is that I have not read the book on Wattpad so I went in blind but given that the book went viral I was expecting something on the lines of ‘Culpa Mia’ or ‘Atravès de mi ventana’ but it was not even close. Spanish production when it comes to YA Romance movies tend to be quite enjoyable especially by portraying very well relationships, friendships, hardships of being a teenager and also the families surrounding these young adults. Even though sometimes overly sexualised contexts that might be more YA movies for 30 year olds reminiscing their teenage years rather than for young adults themselves. This said, Mala Influencia felt short in my opinion. Acting was a good attemp but not quite there, storyline felt basic, rushed towards the end and some scenes in the middle just felt put there to fill it in, the soundtrack was probably the most enjoyable, characters were not explored enough that you felt detached and the script was dull and extremely cheesy ( I don’t know if it was taken by the book itself). Additionally, the passion and chemistry between the main characters was zero to none. ⚠️ SPOILER ⚠️ So many kiss scenes were lacking suspense, trepidation and sexiness. They were kissing and then bye! End scene! Plus, Eros (which even the name should suggest) is a bad boy character so I was expecting more arrogance and attitude, instead we get a fake bad boy that feels insecure, weary and with no appeal. The worst, is when we get to the long, long, long awaited intimate scene which I felt uncomfortable watching honestly. Not because it was sexy but because it felt so wrong, the whole thing had no intimacy, no character, no passion, it was plain embarassement. Even in that situation I was expecting Eros to take charge and instead it felt detached - when he finishes and lays back in the bed and she has to say ‘I haven’t finished’ that was so terrible, what kind of ‘bad boy’ is this?!?! Terrible! ⚠️ END SPOILER ⚠️. Finally, the ending was rushed and slightly unclear which felt a perfect ending to a dissapointing movie: dissapointing. Overall, I was expecting so much more, when you watch the movies mentioned above you at leat get excitment and passion and sexiness, here barely anything. It felt like a bad bad copy of ‘3 Metros Sobre el Cielo’ which is a movie remake of the very popular Italian YA Romance movie ‘3 metri sopra il cielo’ which marked all our young teenage girls hearts, so being compared to this movie made it seem even worse. I am so sorry but I would not recommend. Feel bad for the cast because they tried but when the script and direction is not good its just not good. One other small not, the colour scheme chosen felt cold and not appealing so that also put me off. Sad Influencia!
