Wow this was a bad bad sequel to the Joker 5 years later but 2 years in the continuity of this universe.
This entire movie is basically the trial case of Arthur fleck after killing 5 people… 6 including his mother that no one knew til the end, while meeting a potential lover named Lee who becomes Harley Quinn all while in the form of a musical yes that’s right A MUSICIAL!!!! Who green lit the idea of having a musical be a sequel to a dark DC universe?! Just because you have Lady Gaga playing Harley does not mean to have the whole thing be a musical! I will admit some of the songs and performances were catchy and made me dance but it was just too much and not needed at all! She actually had more singing moments than she had speaking lines. I was expecting more action moments to double the stake from the first movie if he’s teaming up with someone that’s somewhat like him with chaos throughout Gotham but we barely got that only through Arthur’s fantasies that were all musicals.
The only good action scenes was when Harley started the fire in the theater & the explosion in the court but they do not make the entire film better with all the singing and dullness going on. I do enjoy the suspense of the trial that was going on with Arthur wit the concept that people believe that it was the joker personality that was killing and not Arthur himself but this is a DC movie with expected action and connection which does not happen especially at the end.
The ending really made me not like this movie more with the way Arthur met his fate! Todd, you couldn’t come up with a better ending?!? This is why I gave up on the DC universe because there is no connection to the universe and it’s a let down with expectations. From an interesting first film of learning joker with intense moments and heartbreak scenes to now with this film of just musical and outbreaks all in a Supreme Court vibe.
Overall I did not like this movie but had a good time joking about it in the theaters with my friends as we made a night out of it. I highly, HIGHLY recommend not watching this in theaters and save your money for venom 3 this month or an actual thriller movie for this spooky season. To director Todd Philips, Joaquin Phoenix & Lada Gaga… yall have created a horribly comedy of a film to the DC universe!! That’s all folks!! 🤡🤡
