Echo series, a show that was hype from the beginning, led to somewhat a final battle disappointment but ends with questions for the future.
I entered this show with expectations to be just like the daredevil series with a well balance of extreme fight scenes but also story telling and life challenges. But it was more about maya learning about her ancestors and connecting with them for her to be with her true family that she left behind to be with Wilson Fisk and his empire of New York which had good fight scenes but was only in episode 1 & 3 that’s all. I will give credit to the show about how well they focused on Maya and her connection with her family history that was very emotional especially episode 4 when she had a conversation with her grandmother that revealed a lot.
What I didn’t enjoy was the final battle against kingpin when he was about to kill Maya’s family which I know sounds bad but would have been more impactful if one of her family member had died in this battle. Not only it would show the villainous and impact that Fisk always had, but would have boosted Maya’s story more and show she needs to be with her family more to defend them and keep the bond. I also did not love the idea of maya having powers of her own. She was already a great fighter without any special abilities and that gets ruined in the final episode when her mother had healing abilities and then gets passed to Maya. Also she was able to pass her powers over to her cousin named Bonnie, and grandmother and they both were able to fight fisk’s goons with ease?!? Noooooo. That shouldn’t have happened at all and just kept it as Maya using strength, accuracy, knowledge and love from her past ancestors passed onto herself. That would make more sense and kept her in the same level as our street vigilantes like spiderman, daredevil and the defenders.
Overall this was a very short series that makes sense to be a mini series that followed the events of Hawkeye and will lead to daredevil born again which I hope will be better and be just like the daredevil series we all know and love. Each episode connected history more and if you are a person who liked female growth & history, this is the mini series to enjoy and truthfully, there was barely any dangerous moments or gruesome that was promised.
